UWB - Excellent Wireless Breakthrough
Imagine, a 480Mbit per second wireless USB2.0 with a reach of 10 metres or a mobile phone without radiation danger with the size of modern hearing aid of which the batteries needs only to be charged after four years, even beter, it tells you with an accuracy of centimeters where you are or where you can be found if you want. Impossible? Not with the new Ultra Wideband techno;ogy which is comming to us in the next three to four years. UWB adds new dimensions to mobile and wireless communication. It’s 10.000 times more efficient with energy than the current wireless technologies. It can handle 10.000 times more information per square metre.than the current wireless WIFI PC network cards and has incredible high data tranfer rates or (cretainly not and - but or!) enormously accurate tracing and ranging over long distances. UWB technology is much less complicated than conventional RF technologies.

three years ago all this seemed utopic, two years ago the established communications industry got a shock and now there’s no producer in the consumer electronics which can ignore UWB. Intel, Philips, Mitsibushi, Texas Instruments, Samsung, Sharp, Kodak, HP and many others joined in an alliance to establish a standard for UWB. One of the pioneers in UWB is Dr. Robbert Fontana of Multispectral Solutions in the USA. They have already over fiveteen years of experience in this field in secret militairy UWB solutions and were the first to come with fcc approved commercial UWB applications. Leading market research companies predict between 1,4 en 2,2 billion dollar turnover in 2007 (Allied Business Intelligence).
